Binghamton University welcomes David K. Whitmore as vice president of advancement

Binghamton University is proud to announce that David K. Whitmore will join the University on March 10 as the new vice president of advancement, executive director of the Binghamton University Foundation and chief advancement officer.

The successful search resulted from a process that included faculty, staff and administrators. Provost Donald Hall and English Professor Ali Moore co-chaired the search committee.

Whitmore brings a wealth of experience in higher education advancement and leadership. Now serving as vice president for advancement and academic affairs at Syracuse University, he has led transformative initiatives to advance institutional engagement and fundraising for cross-campus academic programs. He secured significant corporate and private gifts and established innovative organizational strategies during his tenure.

At Cornell University, Whitmore played pivotal roles in major gifts and alumni affairs, leading teams to achieve record-breaking fundraising milestones. His work in developing inclusive team cultures and building strong donor networks has made a lasting impact at both institutions.

"David is a development leader with a strong academic focus and 17 years of experience in achieving fundraising objectives," Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger said. "I am confident that David will significantly enhance our ability to create and deliver crucial fundraising initiatives."

"With a track record of designing innovative advancement programs and collaborating with diverse campus audiences, David's leadership will be instrumental in furthering Binghamton University's mission," Hall added.

"Binghamton University is a leader in the SUNY system and public higher education generally," Whitmore said. "I am excited to join the senior officers' group for the University and partner with the Binghamton University Foundation board at this promising time."

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Whitmore earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his master's in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He lives in Ithaca with his wife, Sara, his son, Lucian, and his two dogs, Cosmo and Blue.
