The Anchorage Assembly is now accepting applications from young people aged 16-18 who want first-hand experience in local government for the 2026-2027 Anchorage Assembly Youth Representative(s) at muni.org/youth. Applications are open through May 8, 2026.
The Assembly Youth Representative program offers local high school students the opportunity to participate directly in local government and share youth perspectives on issues affecting the community. The selected student(s) will participate in regular Assembly meetings, share input, and cast a preferential (non-binding) vote during the 2026-2027 school year.
The position is a unique opportunity for students to learn how local government works, develop leadership skills, and help shape conversations about the future of Anchorage. The position is open to municipal residents who are between the ages of 16 and 19 at the time of appointment.
The Anchorage Assembly created the Youth Representative position in 2017 to ensure that young people have a voice in municipal decision-making and to encourage civic engagement among the next generation of community leaders.
Students interested in applying can learn more about the position, eligibility requirements, and application process on the Assembly website: muni.org/youth. Applications must be submitted by May 8, 2026.
