Mayor's Message - January 2025
Dear Residents,
Happy New Year! I am filled with gratitude to be able to spend another year with such a wonderful community. The beginning of the year is always the perfect time for reflection, renewal, and anticipation for the opportunities that lie ahead. As we begin 2025, I'm excited to share updates on upcoming events and key developments that will shape our community.
But first, I would to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to our first responders, whose dedication keeps Aliso Viejo and our neighboring communities safe. We are particularly grateful for the units that have been deployed to fight the current wildfires in Los Angeles County and elsewhere. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this natural disaster. We are keeping them in our thoughts and wishing strength, safety, and a smooth path to recovery for all.
While we remain deeply grateful for those working tirelessly in response to the wildfires, we would also like to highlight some important updates regarding the exceptional team that helps make Aliso Viejo one of the safest cities in Orange County. I am pleased to introduce our new Chief of Police Services, Captain Ryan Buhr. Captain Buhr joined the Sheriff's Department in 2004 and has held various roles throughout his career, including working in custody and patrol, narcotics investigations, and as a K-9 handler and team supervisor. During his time as North DET sergeant, he was responsible for working on cases involving career criminals and violent offenders while addressing specific community concerns. He also served as the department's subject matter expert on burglary tourism, presenting to state and federal leaders. We are confident that Captain Buhr's diverse experience with the Sheriff's Department will make him a valued and effective leader for our city!
One of the most impactful ways in which we can start the year on the right foot is by giving back to our community. On January 20, we have the opportunity to come together for a life-saving cause at Aliso Viejo Ranch during the Red Cross Blood Drive! If you are able to donate, I encourage you to sign up to be a part of this meaningful effort. Your donation can make a real change, and I'm continually inspired about how our residents support this important initiative. For more details and to schedule your appointment, click here.
This year we are not only focusing on giving back, but spending more time fostering meaningful relationships. If you're looking for a beautiful venue to host a special gathering or celebrate a milestone this year, Aliso Viejo Ranch is the ideal place! If you haven't had a chance to explore this unique location, mark your calendar as we will be hosting our Aliso Viejo Ranch Rental Showcase on January 27. You'll have the opportunity to connect with talented event and wedding vendors while experiencing firsthand the charm and beauty of our historic venue. Come on out, explore the serene grounds, and see what makes Aliso Viejo Ranch such a beloved gem in our community. It's a day you won't want to miss! For more information, click here.
I am excited to watch Aliso Viejo thrive this year, from community events and city improvements to the ongoing growth of our local businesses and neighborhoods. I challenge you to get involved, stay engaged, and make 2025 a year filled with growth. I look forward to seeing you around the city in the coming weeks!
