President John Dramani Mahama has launched his nationwide #ResettingGhana Tour with a well-structured two-day visit to the Bono Region, marking the beginning of an ambitious engagement programme that will take him to all 16 regions of Ghana.

The President concluded the Bono leg of the tour on Thursday after inspecting critical infrastructure projects, including a proposed airport site, road networks, and educational facilities in and around Sunyani.

A highlight of the tour was the President's visit to the proposed site for a new Bono Regional Airport at Nsoatre, near Sunyani. The facility is being developed by the Ghana Airport Company.

Speaking at the Resetting Ghana Citizens Engagement with the President, President Mahama explained that the decision to build a new airport followed a determination that the existing facility could not be expanded to accommodate modern aircraft.

"The current Sunyani Airport has a 1.5-kilometre runway, which is too limited. Due to surrounding developments, expansion is not feasible," the President said.

The new airport will feature a 2.4-kilometre runway. "Groundbreaking for the new project will take place soon," President Mahama assured residents.

President Mahama also inspected the 34-kilometre Sunyani Outer Ring Road being constructed by Kofi Job Constructions. The project is designed to ease traffic congestion and provide an alternative route around the Sunyani city centre.

On roads, the President announced a major funding breakthrough for rural infrastructure. "Government has secured $500 million from the World Bank to rehabilitate feeder roads nationwide," he disclosed.

The World Bank funding represents a direct response to the deteriorating condition of feeder roads that connect farming communities and rural areas to major markets and transport routes, a persistent concern raised by residents during the engagement.

President Mahama further revealed that designs for the Sunyani Inner Ring Road have been completed, with budgetary provisions being made for its construction, signalling that the project was next in line for funding.

At the Sunyani Senior High School, the President assessed multiple GETFund projects, including a two-storey 12-unit Science Classroom Block, a two-storey 12-unit Science Laboratory Block, dormitory blocks for boys and girls, washing areas, lavatories, toilet blocks, and four semi-detached staff bungalows.

President Mahama urged the contractor to accelerate work and meet completion deadlines to ensure students benefit from the improved facilities.

The President announced plans to construct three regional stadia in the short term, designed as multipurpose facilities for both sports and community use as part of a wider drive to expand infrastructure beyond major cities.

He also visited the newly commissioned National Signals Bureau Regional Office, underscoring the government's commitment to national security infrastructure in all regions.

The tour included a durbar with chiefs and people of the Bono Region at the Great Hall of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, where President Mahama listened to concerns and outlined government's development agenda for the region.

The President concluded the visit by presenting grants to 245 beneficiaries of the Adwumawura programme in Sunyani, reinforcing his commitment to youth employment and entrepreneurship.

The Bono Region visit marks the first stop of President Mahama's #ResettingGhana Tour, which will see him visit all 16 regions to inspect projects and interact directly with citizens on government policies and programmes.

The tour is expected to provide the President with firsthand knowledge of regional development needs and concerns while allowing citizens to communicate their priorities directly to the highest office.
