NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (November 3, 2026) - New Brunswick Director of Policy and Development Dan Dominguez discussed the city's evolving urban landscape and housing pipeline during the annual Stuart Meck Memorial Lecture at Rutgers University's Bloustein School.
Speaking to students and faculty at his alma mater, Dominguez highlighted roughly 2,800 housing units currently in development, including up to 400 affordable units. Key initiatives include dense student housing near the College Avenue campus to relieve citywide housing pressures, alongside major downtown redevelopments like the multi-phase HELIX and Robert Wood Johnson Cancer Institute.
Dominguez, who took over city planning duties in 2018 before being appointed director full-time, credited the late Professor Meck with shaping his career. He urged aspiring planners to take career risks while emphasizing the human stakes of zoning and development, balancing commercial expansion with the urgent need for affordable homes.
