ICYMI: Senator Coons leads bipartisan group of senators highlighting Chinese threat to American interests ahead of Xi Summit

WASHINGTON - In case you missed it, earlier this month, U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.) led a bipartisan group of 16 senators affirming concern over the growing threat China poses to our nation's security and economic prosperity. The introduction of the resolution came shortly before this week's expected summit between President Trump and President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

President Trump has shown a willingness to make major concessions to China that affect America's security as Beijing threatens our allies, partners, and the homeland, and seeks a reduction in export controls on frontier computer chips so the Chinese Communist Party and the People's Liberation Army can surpass us in the artificial intelligence race. The resolution reiterates that the United States must continue to address the security, economic, technological, diplomatic, and strategic threats posed by China as a top foreign policy priority. It goes on to call on the United States to continue prioritizing several of these key issues.

In addition to Senators Coons and Ricketts, the resolution is cosponsored by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), John Curtis (R-Utah), Andy Kim (D-N.J.), Dave McCormick (R-Pa.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).
