Recognized for its academic excellence and impact, Wayne State University has been named among the top 1.8% of universities worldwide in the Global 2000 rankings from the the Center for World University Rankings. Wayne State ranked 104 nationally, and ranked 365 out of nearly 21,000 institutions globally.
The global recognition follows several other accolades celebrating Wayne State's leadership in academics, research and innovation. Earlier this year, Wayne State University was named one of the nation's top 100 public universities in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings for the second consecutive year, while several of its graduate and professional programs also earned national recognition for excellence. The university was also celebrated this spring for its leadership as one of the top 100 universities in the country patenting new technologies.
"Wayne State continues to stand out as a leading urban public research institution with global reach," said President Richard A. Bierschbach. "This recognition reflects the work happening across our university and the meaningful impact our students, faculty and alumni are making in Detroit and communities around the world. It speaks to Wayne State's enduring commitment to opportunity, innovation and public service."
The Global 2000 list is the largest academic ranking of global universities, and is unique because its methodology is based entirely upon objective, outcome-based indicators related to academics, research and alumni employment, without any reliance on impression surveys or university submissions. The CWUR's ranking methodology is based on the academic and professional success of each university's alumni, the number of faculty members who receive top academic distinctions, and the publication of high-impact, frequently cited and influential research.
"The objective data used in these rankings highlights the caliber of Wayne State's faculty and the success of our students and alumni," said Dr. Keith E. Whitfield, interim provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. "From impactful scholarship to innovative teaching and mentorship, our academic community is producing work that is recognized and respected around the world."
