Iowa City Fire Department responds to residential fire on Moses Bloom Lane
The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 2:17 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at 1201 Moses Bloom Lane after a resident reported a kitchen fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene five minutes after being dispatched and encountered fire and heavy smoke showing from the residence. All occupants had safely exited the structure.
The fire was brought under control 15 minutes after arrival. There were no reported injuries to civilians. One firefighter was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for evaluation. Six occupants in the primary residence and one occupant in an adjacent residence have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire, which caused an estimated $200,000 in damages, remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal.
The Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Iowa City Police Department, Coralville Fire Department, North Liberty Fire Department, West Branch Fire Department, and MidAmerican Energy.
