ACC Urges U.S. and Canadian Negotiators to Return to the Negotiation Table

WASHINGTON (August 24, 2026) - The American Chemistry Council (ACC) was discouraged to hear that United States and Canadian officials failed to reach a deal that would have avoided the imposition of retaliatory duties. The following statement can be attributed to the American Chemistry Council:

"The United States and Canada share a deeply integrated trade relationship that strengthens North American competitiveness, supports new investments in both countries, and sustains millions of jobs through the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

"Canada remains one of the largest destinations for U.S. chemical exports, and the U.S. chemical industry relies on our relationship with Canada and Mexico to remain competitive in the face of structural excess capacity and unfair trading practices from other countries. ACC urges U.S. and Canadian officials to return to the negotiating table and secure a deal that helps American and Canadian businesses and workers. ACC, along with the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC), and Mexican Chemical Industry Association (ANIQ) has developed joint recommendations and launched work streams to help deliver practical, actionable recommendations that can be implemented to enhance investment, innovation, and supply chain resilience across North America."
