DNC Chair Ken Martin Statement on MLK Jr. Day Arrow

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Black Caucus Chair Virgie M. Rollins released the following statement:

"Throughout his life, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired countless Americans by preaching radical love and non-violent civil disobedience to stamp out the stain of Jim Crow segregation.

"Yet for decades, politicians have repeated Dr. King's words while working to dismantle everything he fought for. They ask to be judged, not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character, while willfully parroting harmful rhetoric and advancing policies that erode voting access for Black and Brown Americans, make it harder for working families to get ahead, and stoke fear and division between communities.

"As we celebrate Dr. King's towering legacy in what would have been his 97th year, we also recommit ourselves to his unfinished work. We call on all Democrats to join us as we work to realize Dr. King's vision of a 'beloved community' where equal rights, economic opportunity, and racial justice are the birthright of every American, no matter where they are born. That is how we properly pay tribute to Dr. King's life and how we must honor his memory today."
