Molise landslide: President Meloni following developments with relevant ministers and Civil Protection Department

A long-standing landslide in Molise reactivated this morning, and is effectively splitting Italy in two, simultaneously blocking the A14 motorway, State Road 16 and the railway line.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, is in constant contact with the relevant ministers (Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini and Minister for Civil Protection and Marine Policies Nello Musumeci), Head of the Civil Protection Department Fabio Ciciliano and Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, and is following developments in real time.

The Civil Protection Department immediately convened its Operational Committee, in permanent session, to manage the initial emergency phase regarding reception and support for evacuated citizens and to define the actions to be taken to ensure transport links pending the restoration of the infrastructure affected.

As the landslide is still active, measures to restore the road and rail networks will only be assessed once the technical inspections currently being carried out have been completed.
