Weekend lane closures on outbound Bishop Ford

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that pavement patching on the outbound Bishop Ford Freeway (Interstate 94) from Dolton Avenue to Sibley Boulevard (Illinois 83) will require lane closures this weekend. ​

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, lane closures are scheduled to take place on outbound Bishop Ford from Dolton Avenue to Sibley Boulevard. At the same time, the westbound Sibley Boulevard ramp to outbound Bishop Ford and the eastbound Lincoln Avenue ramp to outbound Bishop Ford also will close. At least one outbound lane will remain open at all times and the inbound lanes will not be impacted. The ramps and lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday. ​ ​

The weekend closures are in addition to the current nightly closures taking place during this stage of construction, more details at http://prez.ly/tCMd. To complete the work, one additional weekend closure will be scheduled to take place, from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, on the outbound Bishop Ford. Details and impacts to traffic will be shared in advance closer to the closure date. ​ ​

All schedules are subject to change due to multiple factors, including weather. Any updates will be shared with the public as far in advance as possible.

The work this weekend is intended to keep the pavement through the work zone in acceptable condition while the larger Bishop Ford corridor is under construction. ​

Heavy congestion is anticipated. Drivers heading eastbound should consider alternative routes to avoid the area. As the Bishop Ford reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
