Audiology Related CPT Codes Enter Routine RUC Review Process

May 26, 2026

Over the next several months, a significant number of CPT codes used to report audiology function tests will undergo review through the AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) Health Care Professionals Advisory Committee (HCPAC) process. ASHA will be requesting survey responses from practicing audiologists who are selected at random to participate. The RUC HCPAC process is used to gather specialty input on the resources (time, intensity, and practice expense inputs) associated with furnishing these services, and the RUC HCPAC recommendations are then submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for consideration in future Medicare payment policy.

This code review is part of the routine RUC relativity assessment process and reflects codes identified through the RUC's Relativity Assessment Workgroup and CMS review pathways. Put simply, this review is not the result of any changes requested by the audiology profession but are part of the routine RUC/CMS review cycle for existing services.

ASHA encourages members to participate thoughtfully if contacted to complete a survey. Follow instructions included with the survey and read all materials thoroughly.

Members who would like additional background on the process may review the publicly available AMA RUC materials:
