Nationally-ranked SMU defeats Tarleton State Tennis in Dallas

DALLAS - Tarleton State Tennis fell short to No. 63 nationally-ranked SMU 4-0 on Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday.

Sunday marked the first contest against a nationally-ranked opponent since Jan. 14, 2023, with Tarleton State traveling to Norman, Oklahoma, to take on No. 4 ranked Oklahoma.

Junior led the Texans in singles, coming up with her sixth bagel (6-0 set) of the season on Court 5. Mukhutdinova is the first Texan to pick up a bagel against a Power 4 Conference opponent since 2023 (Celia Vaudiau at Mizzou). Mukhutdinova's contest against SMU's Kayla Schefke was tied 4-4 in the second set before the match was clinched by SMU, leaving the Court 5 matchup unfinished.

SMU jumped out to the early lead on its home court in doubles, not losing a game on Court 2. The Mustangs clinched the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead after coming up with the win on Court 3, 6-2.

Caroline McGinley helped SMU stay out in front with a win on Court 6 and Drew Morris gave the Mustangs a three-point lead with her victory on Court 2. SMU clinched the win and got the fourth point with its last singles victory on Court 1. The singles matches played by , as well as Mukhutdinova went unfinished on Sunday.

Tarleton State returns to Stephenville for its final home match of the season at the Tarleton Tennis Facility on Thursday, taking on UT Arlington on Thursday at 1 p.m. Thursday's match will be Senior Day and Corps Cadets Day, with the Texans also giving away boot koozies and seat cushions to early arriving fans. Admission to Thursday's match is free.
