GOVERNMENT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

OFFICE OF PLANNING

NOTICE OF FUNDING AVAILABILITY (NOFA)

Commemorate DC Artists Grant

The DC Office of Planning (OP) is soliciting grant applications for a Commemorative Works Artist grant. With this grant, the District of Columbia seeks to increase commemoration of native Washingtonians, leaders and prominent figures of color, historic events, organizations, and cultural staples across all wards of the District. The Artist(s) chosen will provide design services to local communities and organizations and complete the District's design review and approval process for commemorative works in public space. These artistic works will support efforts to increase creative placemaking opportunities across wards and add to the vibrancy of the public realm by reinvigorating our streets, plazas, parks and other open spaces.

Eligibility Criteria: All eligible applications are reviewed through a competitive process. Artists that meet the following eligibility requirements at the time of application may apply:

  • Be experienced artists or designers, over the age of 18 years.
  • Demonstrate at least 3-4 years' experience designing, fabricating, and installing exterior public art works.
  • Be a resident of the Washington Metropolitan Region, defined in DC Code § 2-1105 as including "...the District of Columbia, the Counties of Montgomery and Prince Georges in the State of Maryland, the Counties of Arlington and Fairfax and the Cities of Alexandria and Falls Church in the Commonwealth of Virginia." Eligible addresses are as listed on government-issued identification or tax returns. The address provided on all applications must match exactly the address provided on the submitted IRS W-9 form. Post office boxes are not allowable as a primary address.
  • Maintain residency in the Washington Metropolitan Region during the entire funding period (October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025).
  • If submitting as an artist team (two or more persons), applicant must identify a Lead Artist.
  • Can provide a "Clean Hands" certificate to verify it is in good financial standing with the Government of the District of Columbia and meet certain insurance requirements.
