The City of Frederick is alerting residents, artists, and business owners to a phishing scam involving fraudulent emails impersonating the City's Public Art Commission.
These messages claim to approve a mural proposal and request payment of an "Application Review and Approval Fee" via a wire transfer. These emails are not from the City of Frederick. The City does not request payment for public art applications via email, nor does it process fees through wire transfers.

You may also report the scam to the Frederick Police Department at 301-600-2102. The Frederick Police Department is actively investigating this matter.
The City's Information Technology Department has confirmed that this scam does not pose a threat to City systems or user data, but it may target community members directly.
