The City of Colorado Springs continues to work on center median and intersection safety improvements on Garden of the Gods Road, near Interstate 25. Starting as early as Monday, Nov. 10, construction will also move to the east side of I-25.
Crews plan to install new traffic lights at Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard to make the area safer for drivers and pedestrians. Phase one of the construction will temporarily reduce the usable lanes of eastbound Garden of the Gods by at least one lane. The second phase will temporarily reduce westbound lanes. During rush hours, multiple lanes will stay open. But between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., drivers might see only one lane open in each direction. Expect short delays and watch for signs and changing traffic patterns.
This part of the project should take about eight weeks. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and occur during the weekdays only.
The improvements are needed because this area has had many crashes. From 2015 to 2020:
Funding for the $1.96 million project comes from the Colorado Department of Transportation, with a local contribution from the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority. Learn more about the project at ColoradoSprings.gov/GOGmedians.
