MARYSVILLE, Calif.-Work has begun on a new mural that will commemorate Marysville history, including California Water Service's (Cal Water) 100 years of service, in downtown Marysville. The mural, which highlights Marysville's rich history and connection to water, is being painted on the side of Cal Water's office building by Louie Lethridge, a local artist.
Each of the mural's three, 18-foot-by-8-foot panels features elements of the city's past and present. They include Marysville's historic water tower, horse-drawn wagons, Ellis Lake, the surrounding mountains, Marysville's Chinese community's Bok Kai Parade, and the city's role as the Gateway to the Gold Fields. The nickname was earned when Marysville became a main stop for miners heading to northern California's gold mines during the Gold Rush.
The artwork also depicts Cal Water employees installing critical infrastructure and the company's current downtown Marysville office. Fire trucks and hydrants are incorporated into the design as a nod to the vital role Cal Water's reliable water service has played throughout the decades
"We are proud to celebrate our customers and our century of service by showcasing our history in the community through this mural," said Tavis Beynon, Cal Water's Marysville District Manager. "This artwork is an opportunity to beautify the community while highlighting the progress both Marysville and Cal Water have made over the past 100 years."
Founded in 1926, Cal Water has provided safe, clean, and reliable water service to communities across California for a century. Cal Water's Marysville District was established in 1930 with the acquisition of the Marysville Water Company. Today, the district serves customers using 10 groundwater wells capable of producing up to 6 million gallons of water per day, delivered through 53 miles of pipeline.
The mural is expected to be completed by the end of October and will serve as a lasting tribute to the community and Cal Water's century of providing safe, clean, reliable water.
