The WCO supports Botswana in building Post Clearance Audit capacity

From September 16 to 20, 2024, the World Customs Organization (WCO) held a national workshop on Post Clearance Audit (PCA) for the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) in Gaborone, Botswana. This capacity-building initiative was part of ongoing support under the 'Programme on Trade Facilitation and Customs Modernization for Sustainable Development in Sub-Saharan Africa' (Sida-WCO TFCM Programme), funded by the Government of Sweden. The workshop was officially opened by Mr Gaopalelwe Gentlyes Mongwaketse, Director of Small and Medium Tax Payer Department.

This workshop, the second in a series planned under a multi-year support programme, focused on providing specific assistance for field audits, building on the content of the first workshop. The highly motivated participants from the PCA Unit actively engaged in discussions and group work. Representatives from the Risk Management and Customs Valuation teams also participated in relevant sessions, contributing to meaningful discussions, and all attendees played a role in the workshop's success.

The workshop was facilitated by WCO-accredited experts from the WCO Secretariat and the Zambia Revenue Authority, covering topics such as risk management for Post clearance audits, Customs valuation, role-play, human resources, and external liaison, through the sharing of individual expertise.
