Washington, D.C. - U.S. factories gained 19,000 jobs in October, with 25,000 jobs gained in durable goods manufacturing, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.
Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul said:
"The strength of factory job growth gives the new Democratic majority in Congress and President Trump an important opportunity to work together next year: Rebuild our manufacturing base. It should also serve as a reminder to Congress that there would be downsides in stripping away all of the tariffs now in place.
"Durable goods manufacturing is benefiting from the steel and China tariffs. We will urge on bipartisan efforts to invest in infrastructure, jumpstart our shipbuilding capacity, and defend critical industries against unfair trade practices by enacting trade law improvements."
Bipartisan bills like the SHIPS for America Act, the Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act, and the Connected Vehicle Security Act offer powerful opportunities for Congress to strengthen the U.S. manufacturing base and grow community-supporting jobs.
