SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay), announced that Assembly Bill 2393 (AB 2393), has passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee today, advancing efforts in holding federal agents and private contractors accountable for violations of Californians' constitutional rights.

AB 2393 expands protections by ensuring victims can file lawsuits when subjected to excessive force, false arrest, or false imprisonment by federal agents or private police contractors operating in California.

"ICE agents continue acting outside the law at the behest of a federal administration that has no respect for the rule of law," said Addis. "No one should live in fear of their own government. In this moment, now more than ever, it is critical that we stand strong and hold ICE agents and private police accountable so we can ensure that survivors have access to justice."

AB 2393 now moves to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
