Oregon leaders issue warning about the SAVE America Act
SALEM, OR - In a new op edpublished by The Hill, Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read and U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) raised the alarm about legislation being considered by Congress that would dramatically upend the United States' system of elections.
The Oregon leaders wrote:
"Congress is considering the SAVE America Act, a bill that would throw voter registration in every state in the nation into chaos in the middle of a major election cycle. The bill would require Americans to show a birth certificate, passport, or certificate of citizenship to register to vote. For millions of eligible voters, those documents are not easy to find, expensive to replace, or simply not possible to get. The result is predictable: lawful voters blocked from the ballot box."
