Walberg Votes to Support Law Enforcement in Combating Crime

This National Police Week, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted in favor of, and the House passed multiple bills to support law enforcement officers in their efforts to protect American communities from crime.

The Keeping Violent Offenders Off Our Streets Act would combat radical bail policies by ensuring judges and prosecutors know a defendant's criminal history. The legislation would also bring accountability to bail bonds by treating them as an insurance product so that they must comply with federal insurance fraud laws and background check requirements.

The Cashless Bail Reporting Act would require the Attorney General to publish a public list of places that allow certain serious offenders to be released without cash bail to increase transparency.

"During this National Police Week, we recognize the brave men and women who put on the badge and stand bravely in the face of danger," said Rep. Walberg. "These critical bills will ensure that they have the support they need to keep criminals off our streets by closing loopholes and enhancing transparency regarding bail policies that endanger our communities and help release dangerous offenders. We must continue to stand with our brave law enforcement officers and law-abiding citizens."
