ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL CHARGES FORMER EMPLOYEE OF CHICAGOLAND ASSISTED-LIVING FACILITY WITH SEXUAL ABUSE

June 11, 2026

Chicago - Attorney General Kwame Raoul today announced charges against a former employee of a greater-Chicago assisted-living facility for sexual abuse committed against an individual with a disability.

Oscar Leon-Patino, 22, of Evanston, Illinois, was charged in Cook County Circuit Court with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Class 2 felonies punishable by up to seven years in prison; two counts of criminal sexual abuse, Class 4 felonies punishable by up to three years in prison; and one count of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Sentences are ultimately determined by the court. Leon-Patino is currently detained, and his next court date is scheduled for June 15.

"It is egregious for anyone to prey on an individual with a disability, especially someone tasked with providing services to those who cannot care for themselves," Raoul said. "I remain committed to holding any individual responsible who abuses our most vulnerable residents."

According to Raoul's indictment, Leon-Patino worked as a laundry aide at an assisted-living facility in Evanston. Leon-Patino is alleged to have sexually abused a resident of the facility knowing the victim had a physical and intellectual disability.

The Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) is prosecuting this case following a referral from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Evanston Police Department assisted the MFCU with the investigation.

"Our priority is ensuring victims are treated with compassion, dignity and professionalism as we work in partnership to pursue justice on their behalf," said Chief Schenita Stewart, with the Evanston Police Department. "We appreciate our collaboration with the Illinois Attorney General's office."

The public is reminded that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Raoul's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit receives 75% of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant award totaling $12,584,776 for the federal government's 2026 fiscal year. The remaining 25%, totaling $4,194,923 for the federal government's 2026 fiscal year, is funded by the State of Illinois.

The Attorney General's office is encouraging residents and their families who may have additional information on this case to contact the office's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit at (224) 263-9686.

Assistant Attorney General Robert Sparano is handling the case for Raoul's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
