COLUMBUS - The Ibogaine Treatment Study Committee last week convened for its first meeting, announced State Representative Jodi Salvo (R-Bolivar), who was appointed to serve on the committee as one of two appointees from the Ohio House of Representatives.
The State Operating Budget for fiscal years 2026-27 included a provision to establish the committee, which is tasked with evaluating and providing recommendations on the use of ibogaine for treating individuals with substance use disorders and veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and mild traumatic brain injuries.
"Ohio continues to face serious challenges related to addiction and mental health, particularly among our veteran community," said Salvo. "This study committee reflects our responsibility to do our due diligence, carefully examining the research, understanding the potential benefits and risks, and ensuring patient safety remains the priority. The committee's work will help inform responsible policy decisions about whether ibogaine could be a tool within Ohio's broader toolkit for addiction recovery and mental health treatment."
The budget, which allocates funding for state programs and operations for the next two years, includes provisions that aim to protect freedom, family and fiscal responsibility.
