Energy transition: the advantages offered by Seine-et-Marne

Thursday 1 October 2026 - Steering Committee meeting and signing of the roadmap for the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Energy Transition Community (CDTE)

The Seine-et-Marne département has many strengths that make it a key region for driving energy transition. It is France's leading department in terms of biomethane production fed into the grid (over 1,000 GWh per year), and also home to 80 per cent of the Île-de-France region's photovoltaic projects - and, in Melun, France's first district heating network powered by deep geothermal energy. The region also faces a growing number of challenges relating to energy consumption; for example, in the construction sector or in the transport sector, in a département where road transport remains the primary means of travel.

Taking action to support energy transition in Seine-et-Marne

On Thursday 1 October 2026, Pierre Ory (Prefect of Seine-et-Marne), Jean-François Parigi (Chair of the Departmental Council), and representatives from the Gâtinais Français Regional Nature Park (PNRGF), the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Energy Syndicate (SDESM), ADEME, ENEDIS, NaTran, GRDF, CAUE 77, Ensemble 77, STP77 and the FFB signed the 2025-2027 roadmap of the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Community for Energy Transition (CDTE 77) during a steering committee meeting.

Understanding the work of CDTE 77

Co-ordinated by the Direction Départementale des Territoires (DDT), CDTE 77 is a network of more than twenty public and quasi-public bodies working towards energy transition in the département across a wide range of sectors: transport, construction, agriculture, industry, the craft sector, renewable energy production, and more.

It brings together and pools resources, goods and services to support local authorities and public and private sector stakeholders in the region in carrying out their energy transition projects. This involves creating and making tools available, organising events and providing training for elected representatives, professionals and the general public.

The three key themes of the 2025-2027 roadmap

Building on the success of the previous roadmap, the CDTE is continuing its work with a cross-cutting emphasis - supporting local authorities in climate change mitigation and adaptation - and three key priority themes, focusing on renewable energy production and energy transition in the construction and transport sectors. Members of the CDTE carry out a wide range of activities, such as supporting local authorities in implementing their climate strategies (PCAET) and organising information and awareness-raising campaigns on anaerobic digestion (in conjunction with the CapMétha 77 departmental initiative).

This roadmap, signed for a two-year period, forms part of the path towards national and regional energy and environmental ambitions, and will help to accelerate energy transition in the Seine-et-Marne region, whose many strengths make it a key showcase in this field.
