DALLAS - South Oak Cliff High School, long known as "The Mecca" for athletic success, is now making waves for its academic growth. In just two years, the campus jumped two letter grades on STAAR and came within one point of earning an A rating. Principal Willie Johnson credits the progress to stronger campus culture, innovative teaching strategies, and a focus on student belonging, proving SOC students can excel both on the field and in the classroom.

Construction services pop-up event
Dallas ISD will host the last Bond 2026 planning pop-up event of the month, beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Charles Rice Learning Center. The event is open to all, and designed to gather community input on future bond planning. Guests can explore hands-on demos, share bold ideas, and help shape the future of Dallas ISD schools.

ICYMI: Help shape the district calendar
Dallas ISD is developing the proposed calendar for the 2027-2028 school year. As part of the calendar review and approval process, the district is inviting feedback from staff, parents, and community members. Comments can be submitted through the end of the day today, Sept. 22.
