WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued an Independence Day statement as Mississippians and citizens across the United States ramp up to commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

"This Fourth of July, I hope we will set aside our differences and reflect on the values that unite us as Americans," Hyde-Smith said. "There is so much to celebrate in this remarkable nation, and we are always strongest when we come together in gratitude, pride, and patriotism."

Hyde-Smith's complete Independence Day message:

Hello, I'm U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.

250 years ago, a group of determined patriots put their names to a document that changed the course of history. Their bold declaration established our great nation, the United States of America. And because of them, the freedoms we enjoy today remain truly remarkable.

We have the freedom to speak our minds, to worship as we please, to build a life for ourselves and our families, and to accomplish whatever we set our minds to.

These are not small things. They are extraordinary gifts, and they did not come free.

For 250 years, generations of brave Americans have answered the call to serve, defend, and preserve our nation. Many gave their lives so that future generations could continue to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities that define America. As a grateful nation, we must always remember their sacrifice and honor their legacy.

This Fourth of July, I hope we will set aside our differences and reflect on the values that unite us as Americans.

There is so much to celebrate in this remarkable nation, and we are always strongest when we come together in gratitude, pride, and patriotism.

May God bless you, may God bless Mississippi, and may God continue to bless the United States of America. Happy Fourth of July!
