Davies Partners Co-Author Canadian Taxation of Trusts, 2nd ed.

The second edition of Canadian Taxation of Trusts, co-authored by Elie Roth, Chris Anderson, Rhonda Rudick and Ryan Wolfe, will be launched in Toronto on the evening of Monday, May 5. The lawyers, who make up part of the Chambers-ranked Band 1 Tax and Private Client practices at Davies, will be present at the book launch, along with colleagues, clients and other leading practitioners to celebrate the new edition.

In the decade since the publication of the first edition, the book has become the leading treatise on the law that governs the taxation of trusts in Canada. It will be of interest to any professionals involved in taxation, trusts and estates or private client matters and provides a comprehensive review of all relevant rules touching on the taxation of trusts in Canada, including rules relating to the attribution of income, taxation of non-resident trusts, the use of trusts in estate planning and mutual fund trusts and other commercial trusts. Copies will be available directly from the Canadian Tax Foundation.

On the day of the launch, The Canadian Tax Foundation, the book's publisher, is hosting The Canadian Taxation of Trusts conference, which is co-chaired by Elie Roth. Roth will moderate a panel at the conference, "Trusts Throughout the Act," which will focus on key strategies involving trusts, estate freeze transactions and capital gains planning.

Rudick will also be a panelist in a session, "Estate Admin - Technical Tax and Estate Admin Law Issues," which will uncover and delve into tricky tax issues that arise when administering estates and testamentary trusts. Topics will include tax treatment of surrenders and disclaimers of interest in estates, maneuvering around the tax rules regarding charitable giving, post-mortem planning and more.
