The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that work on the Replacement of bridge carrying I-91 over Grape Brook in Enfield. This project is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 6, 2026, and be completed on Thursday, November 25, 2027. The project 0048-0200 consists of replacing the existing 12-foot-10-inch-wide by 8-foot-3-inch-high corrugated metal plate arch with a 12-foot-wide by 10-foot-high precast concrete box culvert.
New endwalls and flared wingwalls founded on spread footings will be constructed at the inlet and outlet of the culvert. Temporary construction access roads will be constructed off I-91 at both the upstream and downstream ends of the structure. It is anticipated that construction will be performed in five stages; a pre-stage, three stages installing approximately one-third of the proposed precast concrete box culvert during each stage and a post stage. Three lanes of traffic in both directions of I-91 will be maintained during construction.
