Norway and Allies Contribute to New Military Support Package for Ukraine

Norway, with several Allies, will finance a new support package of defence materiel for Ukraine amounting to approximately NOK 5 billion.

The contribution is being made through the military support package known as the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) and was announced yesterday at NATO's meeting of Defence Ministers in Brussels. Norway's contribution amounts to just over NOK 1.3 billion.

'Our support for Ukraine remains steadfast. Together with several other Allies, Norway will ensure that Ukraine rapidly receives necessary US military equipment through the PURL initiative. The support is directed towards measures that provide the greatest possible combat capability and are prioritised by Ukraine. Ukraine is fighting for our shared values. It is also about the security of Europe and Norway,' said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

PURL has proven to be an effective mechanism for maintaining a stable supply of American weapons to Ukraine.

'With this contribution, Norway will continue to be among the largest contributors to military support packages for Ukraine. This assistance is of particular importance, especially in securing delivery of US air defence equipment to Ukraine, in line with Ukraine's highest-priority needs,' said Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik.

The support provided through PURL is in addition to other lines of effort to support Ukraine.

'Deliveries of weapons through PURL form the foundation of the defence of Ukraine's airspace. This is particularly important at a time when Russia is escalating its attacks on the country's energy infrastructure,' the Minister of Defence said.
