HARRISBURG-Legislation sponsored by Senator Joe Picozzi (R-5) to establish clear statewide standards for electrified security systems used by commercial and industrial properties has passed the Pennsylvania Senate.
Senate Bill 1269 would allow businesses to utilize modern perimeter security systems while maintaining strict safety standards and local oversight.
"Pennsylvania businesses deserve access to effective security tools that help protect their property, employees, and inventory," Picozzi said. "This legislation removes regulatory uncertainty while ensuring these systems are used safely and responsibly".
Electrified security systems are installed behind traditional perimeter fencing and connected to monitored alarm systems that immediately alert security personnel when a breach occurs. Similar systems are already authorized in 29 states.
These measures will help businesses deter theft and vandalism, improve worker safety, and support faster emergency response when alarms are triggered.
"This is a commonsense reform that gives employers additional tools to safeguard their property and strengthen the security of their operations" said Picozzi.
The bill now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration.
