DALLAS ,TX, September 18, 2026 - Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Red and Orange Line passengers will experience temporary weekend service modifications from September 20 at 10:00 p.m. through September 21 at 4:00 a.m. due to the installation of spring tensioning devices on the overhead wires between Lover's Lane and LBJ/Central Stations.
To ensure efficient and uninterrupted train service throughout the year, DART will pilot the installation of spring tensioning devices; which are designed to regulate the changes in wire tension caused by daily and seasonal temperature fluctuations. While spring tensioners have already been successfully implemented in areas across the United States, DART Rail Operations recognizes the need to test how well they handle the extreme hot and cold weather that occurs in the North Texas region.
Placing these devices between Lover's Lane and LBJ/Central Stations will give DART Rail Operations the opportunity to stress test the tensioners on a high-demand segment of rail alignment to explore if they are an adequate replacement for the current infrastructure; advancing DART's commitment to building a more modern and resilient rail system.
While the spring tensioning devices are installed, Red and Orange Line trains cannot operate in the active work zone. During this time, overnight rail service will be suspended on both tracks between Lovers Lane and LBJ/Central Stations.
To accommodate passengers during the outage, DART will provide bus shuttle service between Lovers Lane, Park Lane, Walnut Hill, Forest Lane, and LBJ/Central Stations. Bus shuttles will operate in place of trains only in this segment; while Blue and Green Line service will continue as scheduled and remain unaffected.
Bus Shuttle Service Hours: (every 20 minutes during peak hours, and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours (before 6:00 AM and after 10:00 PM) in both directions)
Sunday night, September 20 - 10:00 PM - Monday morning, September 21 - 4:00 AM
At affected locations, DART staff and station concierges will be present to guide passengers and assist with the connection process throughout the weekend. Maintenance is expected to conclude Monday morning, and Red and Orange Lines will resume normal operations.
