Logemann Road closes at U.S. 20 in Jo Daviess County on Aug. 6

JO DAVIESS COUNTY - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that Logemann Road will be closed at U.S. 20 beginning Thursday, Aug. 6. The work zone is 4 miles west of Stockton.

The closure is necessary to construct the connection to the new U.S. 20 alignment as part of a road improvement project between Logemann Road and Stockton. U.S. 20 will continue to be open to traffic, but one lane will be open and controlled by a temporary traffic signal near Logemann Road. There will be no detour for Logemann Road during the closure and the intersection is expected to reopen by Friday, Sept. 4.

This $31.6 million project includes the construction of new alignments of U.S. 20 at both ends of the project area. Other features include truck climbing lanes and a new bridge over Rush Creek. The existing road also will be reconstructed and will include left turn lanes and paved shoulders.

Work in 2026 will be completed at the end of the year and include the relocation of traffic onto the new alignments. Construction in 2027 will be done in sections between Mapes/Golf Roads and Canyon Park/Massbach Roads with one lane of traffic open and controlled by temporary signals. Some side roads will be closed for reconstruction during the project, which is anticipated to be completed in November 2027.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
