Extension Announced at Event Spotlighting Central High School's National Leadership

PROVIDENCE, RI -Governor Dan McKee and Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green today announced the extension of the Rhode Island Department of Education's (RIDE) partnership with Khan Academy, continuing statewide access to Khan Academy Districts and Khanmigo. The nonprofit provides students and families free, high-quality instructional and district tools that support teaching, learning, and college readiness across Rhode Island.

The partnership extension was announced during a recent visit to Central High School in Providence, where state and local education leaders joined students and educators to celebrate both the collaboration and student achievement. Central High School recently placed second nationally in Khan Academy's Khanathalon, a competition that ranks schools by the percentage of students leveling up two or more skills to proficient over an 8-week period. The school finished second in the nation in SAT Math among participating schools and will receive a recognition banner from the Khan Academy team. The recognition comes as the state continues to place an emphasis on math skills through the Math Matters RI campaign.

"Access to high-quality instructional materials is a key ingredient in Rhode Island's academic success, and Central High School's success shows how this partnership can benefit our students.," said Governor Dan McKee. "I appreciate that Khan Academy and RIDE will continue working together to provide families with valuable learning tools. Whether in the classroom or at home, we want our students to have every opportunity to keep learning, growing, and thriving."

"Rhode Island has seen real academic momentum because we continue expanding access to high-quality instructional materials, including the resources offered by Khan Academy," said Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. "The data shows promising trends in student learning for those who use these tools, and this partnership helps us build on that progress. We remain committed to supporting our school communities and ensuring every student has the resources they need to achieve academic excellence."

"We're proud to continue working with the Rhode Island Department of Education to make Official SAT Practice available statewide," said Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy. "Practice matters for every student taking the SAT. When it's built into the school day, practice can build confidence and help students show what they know, opening doors for more students to pursue their dreams."

"Central High School's national recognition in this year's Khanathalon demonstrates what's possible when our students have access to high-quality, engaging learning tools," said Providence Public Schools Superintendent Javier Montañez. "We are incredibly proud of their achievement and thrilled that this partnership with RIDE and Khan Academy will continue. By personalizing instruction and strengthening math proficiency, these resources not only prepare students for the SAT, but also inspire them to aim higher, achieve more, and realize their full potential."

"We are proud to partner with the Rhode Island Department of Education and Khan Academy to expand access to high-quality SAT preparation across the state in pursuit of our shared goal of ensuring every student has the opportunities and the support to succeed," said Priscilla Rodriguez, Senior Vice President, College Readiness Assessments at College Board. "By supporting districtwide access to Khan Academy's tools and dashboards, we are helping educators integrate SAT-aligned skill building into daily instruction and giving students consistent, structured opportunities to strengthen the reading, writing and math skills that matter for college and career readiness."
