Medtronic and Asan Medical Center sign MOU to establish strategic partnership in robotic surgery

Seoul, Korea - May 20, 2026 - Medtronic, a global leader in healthcare technology, and Asan Medical Center have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance robotic surgery on May 6. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both organizations, including Seung-il Park, President of Asan Medical Center (AMC); Dal-san Yoo, Director of the Robotic Surgery Center of AMC; Mike Marinaro, Executive Vice President and President of the Medical Surgical Portfolio, Medtronic; and Rok Yoo, Vice President, Medtronic Korea Ltd.

This MOU is designed to foster the advancement and broader adoption of robotic surgery and drive technology development utilizing Hugo™ RAS, Medtronic's robotic-assisted surgery system. Building on this agreement, the two organizations will collaborate closely across critical areas, including clinical research, education, and technology development, essential to the progression of robotic surgery.

Dalsan You, Director of the Robotic Surgery Center of AMC, stated, "Asan Medical Center has consistently contributed to the advancement of healthcare in Korea through its extensive clinical expertise and educational experience in complex and high-acuity care, including robotic surgery. Through this comprehensive collaboration with Medtronic, we aim to further advance the field of robotic surgery and reinforce our position as a leading global robotic surgery center."

Its first surgeries in the United States commenced at major American medical institutions in February 2026. Outside the U.S., the Hugo RAS system has been used in tens of thousands of urologic, gynecologic, and general surgery procedures in more than 30 countries across 5 continents.
