Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani attended the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Ankara and, together with Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, convened a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the E5 countries (France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom), along with Turkey and the EU.
At each meeting, efforts were made to promote coordination of positions on issues relating to the European security architecture, with a focus on Ukraine and the Middle East.
On support for Kyiv, Tajani emphasised that a coordinated Euro-Atlantic approach is essential, with a view to supporting the proposals that could facilitate direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, and to ensuring the active participation of the United States and Europe.

Among other things, Tajani briefed his NATO colleagues on the security operation through which Italian intelligence and the Carabinieri had identified several Russian agents operating in Italy. "We are preparing to take the necessary steps to safeguard our security: this is yet another sign of the threat that continues to emanate from the Russian Federation towards our institutions, our security, our businesses and our industrial sector. Italy strongly opposes such interference and will do so without hesitation. We want to continue doing this together with all our NATO allies. I have shared information on this case because an attack on an allied country is an attack on all of us," the Minister said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also thanked Turkey for the important work it had done to ensure that the Alliance's Southern Flank was given significant attention during the meetings in Ankara. The minister also reiterated the importance of supporting dialogue between the United States and Iran and the implementation of the agreement between Israel and Lebanon, without overlooking Africa and the security challenges posed by migration, terrorism and illicit trafficking.
