Go Behind the Scenes with Hillsboro Water for Drinking Water Week

It's Drinking Water Week, a celebration of everything drinking water does for our community!

Water is often called the "invisible utility" because most of the work that goes into delivering clean water happens out of sight - underground pipes, hidden reservoirs, and dedicated staff working around the clock.

Water Treatment

The Joint Water Commission (JWC) Water Treatment Plant operates 365 days a year, treating water drawn from the Tualatin River. As the largest conventional water treatment plant in Oregon, it can treat up to 85 million gallons of water per day, keeping your tap running no matter what.

Water Sampling

Every month, our state-certified laboratory team collects and tests hundreds of water samples across the Tualatin River Watershed, Barney Reservoir, and throughout Hillsboro's service area to make sure your water meets the highest quality standards.

Fire Hydrants

The yellow fire hydrants dotting your neighborhood? We keep them ready for emergencies. In 2025, our team inspected 1,080 fire hydrants, completed two repairs, and replaced 22, so water is always there when it matters most.

Water Conservation

Saving water saves money, and we're here to help. Hillsboro Water offers rebates and funding for customers who invest in water efficiency. In 2025, we awarded $17,000 to residential customers for home fixture upgrades and $30,000 to commercial and industrial customers for projects like turf removal, irrigation upgrades, and drip system installations. We also offer free Home Water Audits to help you spot leaks, build better habits, and reduce your water use.

Water Infrastructure

Behind every reliable water system is a team making sure it stays that way. In 2025, our engineering team completed dive inspections at finished water reservoirs, upgraded all reservoir buildings and PRV sites to LED lighting (thanks to the Oregon Energy Rebate program), installed new Water Quality Analyzers at two locations, and ran our Unidirectional Flushing Program to prepare water mains for the upcoming Willamette Water Supply System.

From source to tap, Hillsboro Water is committed to protecting public health and delivering clean, safe water to your home - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Happy Drinking Water Week!
