If the thought of frozen pipes sends shivers down your spine, there are preventative steps you can take to reduce your chance of frozen pipes this winter.
Prepare your home with insulation, caulking, and weather stripping to keep the cold air out. Also, as temperatures dip, let that faucet drip! Prevent your home's pipes from freezing by allowing your indoor faucets to drip, leaving your sink cabinet doors open to allow for warmer air circulation, and covering or wrapping outdoor faucets. What to Do if Your Pipes Freeze
If your pipes ever freeze, turn your water off at the shut-off valve and call Public Utilities at 757-382-6352 weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or at 757-382-3550 after business hours. It is recommended to identify and tag your water shut-off valve ahead of time for easy turn-off when necessary.
