On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda congratulated Lithuania's diplomats and staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrating their professional holiday.
In his address to the diplomatic community, the President emphasized their responsibility for defending Lithuania's interests and promoting the country's name around the world.
"Better than anyone else, you know how much wisdom, professionalism and dedication are required in Lithuania's diplomatic service. Without counting your efforts or time, you stand guard over the interests of our state," the President said.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, how well our country is heard by its closest allies depends on Lithuanian diplomats, particularly in ensuring the security and defense of NATO's and the EU's eastern flank, as well as in supporting Ukraine in its fight. The diplomatic service is also already engaged in preparations for Lithuania's upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The President also highlighted the role of diplomacy in developing economic and cultural cooperation, which over time strengthens Lithuania's standing in the international arena.
"The deeper the world sinks into twilight, the louder, clearer and wiser Lithuania's voice must sound. Your voice - dispelling lies, disinformation and propaganda -must proclaim the truth, which today is truly worth its weight in gold," the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda thanked diplomats for their efforts in defending Lithuania's interests, strengthening ties with countries around the world and fostering Lithuanian communities abroad.
"Continue to spread the message about the Lithuanian state and our unique national identity as widely as possible," the President said.
The Day of the Diplomat in Lithuania is celebrated on November 7 - the date in 1918 when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania was established.
