AUSTIN - Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) President Todd Staples today issued this statement ahead of the expected weekend arrival of a cold front in Texas:
"As another cold weather system moves in, the Texas natural gas system is #WinterReady and prepared to do its part for Texas families and businesses that rely on natural gas to heat their property, and for those that use natural gas to fuel their electrical generation systems. According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration, natural gas storage levels in the South-Central region are 8.3% above the five-year average, providing a robust supply cushion to address potential increases in demand. Railroad Commission information shows Texas has approximately 330 billion cubic feet of accessible natural gas in private storage facilities, enough natural gas to meet the typical need for natural gas electrical generation for over 64 days, assuming buyers have made prior arrangements for purchase and transmission.
"The energy industry has implemented significant measures to enhance winterization, improve system reliability, and ensure adequate fuel availability. However, collaboration and preparation remain essential. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and work with stakeholders across the value chain to address any emerging concerns and maintain reliability throughout the season.
"While widespread disruptions are not anticipated, mechanical systems of this vast complexity may experience some unavoidable disruptions during extreme weather. We encourage energy producers, suppliers , and end-users to prioritize pre-planning and pre-purchasing as well as leverage storage capacity as proactive measures to ensure a smooth and reliable energy supply chain. Such forward planning helps mitigate exposure to market volatility while reinforcing a shared commitment to meeting Texans' energy needs efficiently and safely."
