5 February 2026 - Wits University
Nearly 100 staff members have already started building new skills through LinkedIn Learning.
This new platform was introduced in November 2025 by the Human Resources Development Unit (HRDU) to support focused, on-demand learning in line with the rapidly changing workplace .
Kiara Haripersad, Senior Research Administrator in the Centre of Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (CoE-MaSS), is amongst the early adopters and has already completed three certificates.
Her choice has leaned towards Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses, motivated by changes to the profession.
"With the increasing use of AI in the workplace, I wanted to better understand how these tools can be used effectively to improve productivity and support my work," she says.
Completed courses include Discover the Possibilities of Generative AI and The AI-Driven Project Manager: 10X Your Productivity with Generative AI.
She credits her progress to a supportive team that encourages continuous learning.
"My manager has encouraged us to dedicate one hour each week to learning, which has been very valuable and allows us to make the most of the platform."
Ute Schwaibold, Senior Lecturer, School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Science
Practical and mostly well-structured is how Schwaibold describes the courses.
"The courses are also quite varied, so one can benefit not only from the more technical training for example data analysis, but can also enjoy shorter personal growth courses during a lunch break," she says.
So far she has completed courses covering Python, SQL, R and spatial analysis.
"My choice was mostly driven by the ever-growing importance of coding skills for data analysis in environmental research, especially when working with large ecological, spatial, and socio-environmental datasets. I have also listened to a few personal growth courses for some positivity."
Jignasa Diar, Senior Graphic Designer, Alumni Relations
Also keen to see how she can use AI to her advantage, Jigs who is a multi-award winning designer, wanted quick skills to support the growing need for efficient content creation and an understanding of emerging tools such as generative AI.
"I have completed Generative AI Imaging: What Creative Pros Need to Know, Integrating Generative AI into the Creative Process, Adobe Express Essential Training and Social Media Content Creation with Adobe Express."
Her view is the content is practical and can be applied immediately to my work.
"They are practical and mostly well-structured a also provide valuable insights into current digital and creative trends."
What further impresses her "how accessible the platform is and how well it suggests courses relevant to my field as well as soft skills needed in the workplace."
