Second Route W ramp in Jefferson City to close beginning mid-November

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The existing ramp from Callaway County Route W (Cedar City Drive/Airport Road) to westbound U.S. Route 54 is set to close starting next week as part of the project expanding the highway in North Jefferson City. With the ramp from westbound U.S. 54 to Airport Road already closed, there will be no access to or from Airport Road and westbound U.S. 54 for three weeks.

On Monday, Nov. 2, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation anticipate closing the ramp from Cedar City Drive/Airport Road to westbound U.S. 54. During this three-week closure, motorists will be directed to use eastbound U.S. 54 to the U.S. Route 63 interchange to access westbound U.S. 54.

The ramp closure is necessary for crews to complete the pavement for the new U.S. Route 63/U.S. 54 lane onto the bridge over the Missouri River. Once that work is finished, full access to the interchange will be restored and the new loop ramp onto westbound U.S. 54 will open. At this time, the dedicated lane for southbound U.S. 63 onto the Missouri River bridge will also open.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

As part of its April 2026 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $4,191,212.26 contract to Don Schnieders Excavating Company, Inc., to complete the project. The project began in June 2026, with all work contractually to be completed by May 1, 2027.
