Development of The Stewart Cannery at Railroad Square was made possible through state, local and private funding, including a $57 million loan through the California Housing Accelerator program, $10.3 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) funds aimed at helping Santa Rosa rebuild its housing stock after the 2017 Tubbs Fire, a $3.2 million state infill development grant, $450,000 in predevelopment funding, and 33 Project-Based Vouchers from the City's Housing Authority, in addition to private financing.
The opening of The Stewart Cannery completes four out of five projects on the City's list of affordable housing projects financed in-part through $38 million in CDBG Disaster Relief funds administered by the Santa Rosa Housing Authority. The four completed projects include The Stewart Cannery, Laurel at Perennial Park Phase I (on the site of the former Journey's End Mobile Home Park), Caritas Homes Phase I in Downtown Santa Rosa, and Linda Tunis Senior Apartments in Rincon Valley. The fifth and final outstanding project, Burbank Avenue Apartments in Roseland, is under construction and slated to open this summer. In total, the five projects upon completion will have added 377 units of affordable housing to the City's portfolio of affordable housing units.
