At the June 9 meeting, Council selected Brian Fiorenza to serve as Mayor Pro Tem and Shawn Nelson as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem. The ceremonial swearing-in was held for Councilmembers Shawn Nelson, Dan Jaworski, Hogan Heathington, and Mayor Charlotte Wilcox.
Council received an update on services provided by local sports organizations that the City contracts with to provide sports leagues. At this meeting, presentations were given by Neighborhood Sports, which provides flag football at Brazos Park, Bad Dawg Tennis, which provides tennis at the Highland Village Tennis Center, and Sarah Frank Pickleball, which provides pickleball leagues at Unity Park. At the April 14 meeting, Council received presentations from the Highland Village Area Baseball and Softball Association (HVABSA), which provides baseball and softball leagues at Unity Park, and the Greater Lewisville Area Soccer Association (GLASA), which provides soccer leagues at Doubletree Ranch Park.
Parks Director Phil Lozano, Finance Director Heather Miller, and Dean Construction provided an update to Council on the Pilot Knoll Park Project. In 2021, Certificates of Obligation were issued for improvements to Pilot Knoll Park, which included campground/shelter improvements, replacement of the gatehouse, improvements to the boat ramps, and construction of 16 rental cabins to provide an ongoing revenue stream. In October 2025, Council directed staff to remove the construction of 16 rental cabins as the cost projections did not deliver the additional revenue initially projected. At this meeting, Council received a presentation on amended improvement options to include the gatehouse, RV restroom, day-use areas, trails, and boat ramp. Funding for the project will come from COs and percentage-matching grants. Pilot Knoll Park borders Lake Lewisville in Highland Village and is approximately 75 acres. The park is leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and offers RV and tent campsites, a day use area, boat docks, pavilions for rent, kayak rentals, a sand volleyball court, and a fire pit.
During City Manager and Staff Reports, the Village Report invited the community to Celebrate Highland Village set to take place on June 13 at Doubletree Ranch Park, and informed the community of Camp Highland Village and summer recreation programs.
