Live Christmas Tree Recycling Program opens December 26

The City of Yuma will once again offer its annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program, giving residents a convenient, free way to recycle their Christmas trees after the holiday season. The program begins Friday, December 26, and encourages residents to recycle trees instead of placing them in household trash-supporting waste reduction and reuse efforts across the community.

Residents may drop off live Christmas trees free of charge at the northeast corner of the Yuma Civic Center parking lot, located at Desert Sun Drive and Avenue A. The site will operate from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., December 26 through January 4.

The program accepts live trees only. All lights, ornaments, tinsel, and decorations must be removed before drop-off. Artificial trees will not be accepted.

A message board and cones will be in place to guide traffic entering and exiting the drop-off area. The site is self-serve; if residents are unable to place the tree inside the container, they may leave it on the ground and City staff will handle it.

Collected trees will be recycled, and some will be repurposed in partnership with the Arizona Game and Fish Department to help support fish habitat improvement efforts in local waters after the holiday season.

In addition, city and county residents may drop off trees at the North Gila Transfer Site, located at Avenue 7E and County 5th Street. County site hours are 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., December 26 through January 4.
