WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted in favor of H.R. 6047, the Sharri Briley and Eric Edmundson Veterans Benefits Expansion Act of 2026, legislation to increase disability compensation for veterans requiring aid and attendance, tie dependency and indemnity compensation to Social Security cost-of-living adjustments, expand VA home loan eligibility for National Guard and Reserve members, and extend fee waivers for disabled veterans on VA housing loans.
"The men and women who were wounded in service to this country, and the families of those who did not come home, deserve more than gratitude," said Congressman Harrigan. "This bill increases disability compensation for our most severely injured veterans, gives surviving spouses more financial stability, and opens the door to homeownership for Guard and Reserve members who have served and sacrificed alongside their active duty counterparts. It is the right thing to do and I was proud to vote for it."
The Sharri Briley and Eric Edmundson Veterans Benefits Expansion Act adds a supplemental monthly allowance of $833.33 for veterans eligible for aid and attendance compensation, ties dependency and indemnity compensation increases to Social Security cost-of-living adjustments, expands VA home loan eligibility to National Guard and Reserve members with qualifying service going back to September 11, 2001, and extends fee waivers for disabled veterans on VA housing loans through September 2036.
Congressman Harrigan has been a consistent advocate for veterans and military families and will continue fighting to ensure this country keeps its promises to the men and women who served.
