City Hall solar carport work starts Friday, Feb. 6

Work on the solar PV carport systems at City Hall is expected to begin Friday, Feb. 6. The contractor, McMillan Electric, will put up construction fencing to close most of the lot between City Hall and the Gymnastics Center. Alternative parking will be available in the other parking lots at the Burgess Campus. Please visit menlopark.gov/citysolar for updates.

Anticipated lot closure:
Start: Feb. 6
End: March 27

Alternative parking locations include City Council Chamber's lot (751 Laurel St.), Burgess Tennis Courts lot (corner of Laurel St. and Burgess Dr.) and the Burgess Baseball Field lot (on Alma St.). The very limited remaining parking in the lot near City Hall will be reserved for members of the public.

During this temporary disruption in parking, we invite you to consider using sustainable transportation (walking, biking, commuting or taking transit) to see how these modes may work to visit the Burgess Campus. To learn more about the City shuttle and transit access to facilities, please visit the Menlo Park Shuttle Services page and the SamTrans public transportation page.

The City Hall PV systems are part of Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE)'s Solar and Storage for Public Buildings Program. In partnership with PCE, solar is being installed at four facilities (Arrillaga Gymnastics Center, Belle Haven Child Development Center, City Hall, and Menlo Park Library) at no up-front cost. These efforts support the City's Climate Action Plan (CAP) goal to be carbon neutral by 2030. Specifically, they support CAP Strategy No. 5 which is to eliminate fossil fuel use from City operations by securing affordable electricity prices for City facilities that will be switching from gas to all-electric appliances for cleaner air, improved health and reduced costs.
