Washington - The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation will consider the nomination for former Congressman Sean Duffy to be President Trump's Secretary of Transportation. Ahead of the hearing, Will Anderson, EV policy advocate with Public Citizen's Climate Program, issued the following statement:
"There's a cruel irony that reality TV's Sean Duffy would draft road rules that aren't based in the real world. As a former reality TV star and Fox News host, Sean Duffy is a strange choice to take over the helm of a department that will map how the U.S. auto industry navigates a future where EVs dominate the market.
"As Duffy disparages EVs, he helps China move one step closer towards Chinese-made EVs dominating the global auto market. Even during his stint in Congress, Duffy did not serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee; nor did he lead any legislation on transportation that made it out of said committee.
"As his incoming boss takes aim at key provisions intended to ensure clean air and clean water, Duffy is set to push fossil fuel vehicles that put pollution at the top of Trump's agenda."
