Newly-hired UW-Oshkosh men's basketball coach Steve Schweer, right, shakes the hand of UW-Oshkosh Athletics Director Darry Sims.
New head men's basketball coach Steve Schweer held his first press event on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus Tuesday afternoon, speaking with his players and taking questions from the media.
Schweer, who spent eight years leading Illinois College, becomes the 16th head coach in the 127-year history of the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball program. He replaces Matt Lewis who departed following eight seasons that included an NCAA Division III national championship in 2019.
Athletic Director Darryl Sims thanked Schweer for believing in joining the Titan family, while Schweer said he was grateful for the trust placed in him.
"There's a really proud tradition of success with this program," he said, noting that he wants UWO to be a "destination" for players from Wisconsin, northern Illinois and beyond, who want to compete at the highest level.
